BORDA wastewater treatment solution for the World Bank office in Vientiane: BORDA Laos conducts training for users and operators

The World Bank Group is one of the world’s largest sources of funding and knowledge for developing countries, aiming at reducing poverty, increasing shared prosperity, and promoting sustainable development. In Laos the World Bank Group, in partnership with the Lao PDR government, has a significant focus on environmental protection. Leading green initiatives by example, the World Bank in 2016 opened a newly constructed “Green Mark” certified office in Vientiane overlooking the Mekong River.

BORDA DEWATS Plant & Training Support "Going Green"

Contributing to the office’s green certification is the BORDA Decentralised Wastewater Treatment Solutions (DEWATS) plant installed to treat its wastewater. BORDA Laos and its national government partner Department of Housing and Urban Planning (DHUP) are very proud of the DEWATS plant, which has a capacity of 10.2 qm3 and consists of the following key modules: settler, anaerobic baffled reactor, anaerobic filter, and planted gravel filter.

To ensure sustainable operation of the DEWATS plant, BORDA Laos staff gave an operation and maintenance (O&M) as well as a user training to the World Bank office’s facility management staff on August 16, 2017. Following the trainings, staff opened the plant’s manholes to check on the smooth running and proper functioning of the wastewater treatment plant.

As a consequence of Vientiane’s rising population and real estate expansion, the demand for more cost-effective, environmentally sustainable and reliable wastewater treatment solutions is increasing. Thus, BORDA Laos and DHUP are very grateful for the trust that the World Bank has placed in BORDA Laos and in BORDA’s DEWATS.

On 16 August 2017 at the recently built World Bank office in Vientiane, BORDA Laos led capacity building sessions for facility management staff to support sustainable operation of the onsite BORDA-designed decentralised wastewater treatment solution
